FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Riad Alili

A riad is a traditional urban abode that is mainly found in Morocco that has a central patio. Riads are usually located in the medinas of cities (the historic districts)

Hotels are more spacious and sometimes offer more services, but riads are more typical and allow travelers to have a unique experience, away from the chaos of the modern city. The various patios provide a space for relaxation and peace while the roof terraces offer panoramic views of the city. The riad is a real guest house that will offer you a personalized welcome and will allow you to get as close as possible to Moroccan culture through its decoration, its catering, its hammam and its massages. In a riad, all the know-how of Moroccan craftsmen is highlighted. You will be welcomed as a friend.

Our riad is located in the medina in the Bab Doukkala district, very close to the great mosque of Bab Doukkala. It is a very famous area of Marrakech where there is a daily local market.

We can welcome you at any time of the day or night. In case of late arrival or early departure, please let us know.
You will be able to use your room from noon and must vacate it by 11:00 a.m. at the latest.
Our staff is present at the riad 24 hours a day and you will be able to notify them of your arrival by phone (a phone will be lent to you for the duration of your stay) so as not to disturb the other guests by a loud bell.

It is always possible to find a place for your vehicle on the streets of the neighborhood. Otherwise, paid and safe parking is available not far from the riad.

Our riad is large with sometimes very thick walls but it is equipped with several access points to guarantee you a very good Wi-Fi fiber connection, whether in the rooms, common areas or terraces.

– At Riad Alili we try to implement the best environmental practices in the field of tourism. This is why all our lamps are equipped with energy-saving bulbs and water-saving devices are installed on all our toilet flushes.
– We also only buy organic and local products as much as possible. That’s why we order fresh produce on a day-to-day basis and only prepare the right amount of meals set in the morning.
– We also use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
– Our swimming pool is heated only by the sun but we compensate for this by heating the jacuzzi all year round (less important volume of water).
– Finally, it is everyone’s duty not to leave lights or electrical appliances on if it is not necessary and to ensure the rational use of water, so rare and precious in Morocco, by taking showers rather than baths and not systematically washing your household linen (towels and bathrobes) every day. For hygienic reasons, the bath mats will be systematically changed daily.

The riad is a traditional 18th century building designed with lots of stairs and of course no elevator! We would be delighted to accommodate people with reduced mobility (and we have already done so) but the house can be complicated to use even if some suites as well as the large living room, dining room or toilet are located on the ground floor. It is therefore best to discuss this together on a case-by-case basis when preparing your stay.

In Morocco, it is customary to leave a tip if you are satisfied with the service you have been given, but it is not mandatory.
Regarding the riad team, we are sometimes asked if it is appropriate to leave a tip. The answer is clear: the staff of the Riad has no particular expectations, but if you are happy with the service you have received and wish to leave a tip, a safe is provided for this purpose at the reception, and its contents are shared equally each weekend among all staff members.

We regularly organize parties for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, bachelorette parties, New Year’s Eve and Christmas…). Tell us about your desires and we will see together what is achievable and what we can offer you.

During the exclusives, the evenings are systematically organized in order to celebrate the events.

You can only get dirhams in Morocco. You have two choices:
– withdraw dirhams directly with your credit card from ATMs in the city (mainly near Jemaa-el-Fna Square and in the Guéliz district)
– or exchange your currency at one of the many exchange offices in the city and the medina (a currency exchange office not far from the riad does not take exchange fees. However, avoid exchanging money at the airport).

You can also order a meal without necessarily taking half board. A snack menu is available in the rooms. You just need to give us some time to prepare this for you.
No food or takeaway orders will be possible at the riad as we offer this service.
On the other hand, the kitchen is always open and you will be able to come and meet our cook on request and prepare together a dish that you will enjoy the same evening at no extra cost. Our cook will be able to give you all her little tips and tricks on Moroccan cuisine.

Yes, room and suite rates include accommodation and breakfast for our guests staying with us.

Half-board corresponds to a full meal (menu of the day including a starter, a main course and a dessert that changes daily and allows you to taste a wide variety of Moroccan dishes). You can enjoy your half-board at lunchtime or in the evening depending on your day’s schedule. Every morning you let our manager know when you would like to eat at the riad.

We have a menu of small snacks and snacks available in the room. You can order at any time on the stove’s dwell time.

Breakfast is served depending on the weather by the pool, in the dining room, in the large living room or on the terraces.
In case of departure very early in the morning, our night manager will still prepare a basic breakfast for you.

Spa / excursions

Everything has been thought out for your absolute comfort and we want to offer you the most pleasant stay possible.
We therefore have a hammam as well as a massage parlour. We also have a swimming pool and jacuzzi as well as a shower on the first terrace to cool off in the hot summer hours.

The swimming pool and jacuzzi are free to access for all our guests staying at the riad but in order to respect the calm of the Riad and the rest of everyone, they are accessible from 10 am to 8 pm.
The pool is only heated by the sun (usually accessible from March to the end of October) while our jacuzzi is heated all year round. It is highly recommended to take a shower after a massage if you have to go for a swim because oil and water do not mix!
Pool towels and sun hats are available at the riad.

A menu of treatments (massage, scrub, pedicure/manicure, hair removal, body treatments, etc.) is available on our website as well as in your room.
Treatments can therefore be ordered as soon as you book your stay or at least the day before.
It is imperative to order the hammam and the treatments offered there as soon as possible as it takes us at least 7 to 8 hours to heat it according to the seasons.
The best thing to do is to discuss with our director at the beginning of your stay your desires for treatments, massages or excursions in order to organize it in the best possible way.

Sur notre site, vous trouverez une rubrique concernant les visites sur Marrakech et excursions aux alentours.
Toutes nos excursions se font en voiture individuelle avec chauffeur privé pour vous assurer une prestation de qualité et sans mauvaise surprise.

Children

Children are accepted in most riads, although the trend seems to be reversing slightly.
Indeed, most of our guests choose a riad rather than a hotel for its calm and privacy. It is therefore important that parents and children respect the tranquility of the place and other people present.
Screaming, bombs and other dives in our pool will not be accepted and children will only swim in the presence of their parents in order to ensure their safety as well.

If you want to go out one night, we can offer you a babysitter who will come and look after your child at the riad. The price of this service will obviously vary depending on the number of children and the time of care.

Within the riad, we have some children’s books as well as DVDs (cartoons, documentaries…), board games and coloring materials.
When it comes to age-appropriate visits and excursions, our director will be able to advise you as best as possible.

At the riad, we provide you with a travel cot, a stroller, a high chair and the taxi that will pick you up at the airport will have a car seat if necessary. We also have armbands for the pool.
